You Can Subscribe Anonymously

It occurs to me that not everyone wants me to know who is subscribing. And I just found out that Feedblitz, who manages my subscriptions (I have one for all my blogs), sending out my updates automatically, allows readers to subscribe anonymously.

It's not a simple thing. The guy who thought up Feedblitz is so clearly beyond geek, it's not even amusing. I'm a tad geeky and I have a hard time following along. So I signed up a rarely used email address of mine as an anonymous subscriber to see how it works. Here's how:

You'll do two things: First you become a member of Feedblitz (free, although you are offered the chance to upgrade). Then you subscribe to Sally's Key West and any other blog/website they manage (they manage 91,300 as of this moment).

To subscribe, start here: www.feedblitz.com

1. Sign up with your email address and a password.

2. Check your email. You will get an email from Feedblitz confirming your subscription. Click the link in the email. This will take you to your new Feedblitz Dashboard.

3. Along the top of that page, you will see an orange (at least it's orange now) button that reads "My Account". When you hold the mouse over that, a drop down menu drops down. Go to "My Profile" and click that.

4. You are now at the "My Profile" page. You'll see your email address and the black dots where your password should be. And, just below that, a box with "Private" next to it. Click that and UPDATE. You are now an anonymous subscriber to any of the thousands of websites and blogs (or Feeds, as the geeks call them) that Feedblitz manages.

Now subscribe to Sally O'Boyle Realty:

1. Hold your mouse over "My Account" at the top of the page again and go to "My Subscriptions".

2. When you click "My Subscriptions", a new menu opens up on the side. Select "Add a new subscription".

3. This takes you, unfortunately, to a very confusing page. BUT, you only have two more things to do!

4. In the box labeled "URL to poll", type in http://www.so-real.com, then click the "Subscribe to Feed" button. Ignore all the other hoo-ha unless you know what to do there. I don't.

5. On this new page, you are given 3 choices of feeds. Click the top selection: it will be the URL above with atom.xml at the end. You could probably pick any of the three choices, but I know this one. I swear you are almost done.

6. This will take you to the last page. Just make sure the circle is green next to Sally O'Boyle Realty. If it is (and it should be), you are good to go. Close the page and you will get the next update in your email. If it is not green, you'll have to read the Legend and see what to do for your color...

OR...
You can just subscribe. I SWEAR I will never contact you in any way unless YOU ASK me to. I won't even look at the list of my subscribers so I won't know who you are. When I stop doing updates here, you will never hear from me again. When you really get to missing me, you know where to find me.
